Examining the Effects of Servant Leadership on Life Satisfaction

Abstract

This paper explored the effects of servant leadership on employees’ life satisfaction. In addition, it examined the mediating role of work engagement and organizational based self-esteem (OBSE) in this relationship. Data for this cross sectional survey study were collected from 160 Pakistani employees who were working on a full-time basis in a large tractor manufacturing company. The SPSS macro developed by Preacher and Hayes (2008) was used to test the research hypotheses. Results showed that servant leadership was positively related to both work engagement and OBSE, which, in turn, were both positively related to life satisfaction. Furthermore, it was found that work engagement and OBSE fully mediated the effects of servant leadership on life satisfaction. Limitations of the results and implications of these findings for theory and practice are discussed.
