Abstract

The Price and Margins Formation Observatory provides data that to analyse the formation of value at the various stages of the agri-food supply chain. The series compiled by the Obs. in different sectors show changes in retail prices or in processing industry in line with the prices of their raw materials and other charges, rather than amplified by profit increases. Changes in retail prices are reflected in the reduction in downstream margins and do not fully reflect increases in commodity prices. This situation, induced by the strong competition between retail chains in a the weak economic context for consumption is now at the heart of the debates on the taking into account, in price formation, of price increases of raw materials.
