Firms, markets and trade costs: access of French exporters to European agri-food markets

Abstract

L'objectif de cet article est de comprendre dans quelle mesure le marché unique européen reste fragmenté du point de vue des exportateurs Français. Le modèle de Chaney (2008) montre que pour pénétrer un marché, la productivité de la firme doit être supérieure à une productivité seuil. En utilisant les données financières et de commerce d'entreprise pour l'année 2004, la valeur du seuil à l'entrée de chaque marché européen est expliquée ainsi que la valeur exportée par les entreprises sur ce marché. Les résultats de cette étude montrent que l'hétérogénéité des marchés européens est due aux conditions géographiques ainsi qu'à des coûts aux échanges persistants à l'entrée de ces marchés.
