Abstract

The influence of leader-member exchange relationships was examined in this study to determine the influence that they may have on the sharing of tacit knowledge by workers in the organization. While prior research has indicated that leadership style can influence the sharing of knowledge, the ability of the leader-member relationship has not been examined to understand how it may encourage knowledge sharing this study of workers in the IT industry (N=103) found that there was a significant relationship between leader-member exchange and the sharing of tacit knowledge. Further, it was found the trust that a worker may have with a leader and the reciprocity that the worker assumes with their leader had a mediating influence on the relationship. A model of this relationship was constructed from the data and it was found to have adequate fit.
