Abstract

This paper attempts to investigate the stochastic resonance (SR) in an asymmetric bistable kinetic model driven by both additive non-Gaussian colored noise and a harmonic excitation. The asymmetric potentials are divided into three aspects: the well-depth asymmetry, the well-width asymmetry, and the synchronous action of well-depth and well-width asymmetry, respectively. By using two-state theory, the bistable system with three types of asymmetric potentials is transformed into a master equation. Moreover, the expression of output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is derived to investigate the SR behavior. It is found that the features of SR in asymmetric scenes compared to symmetric scenes are different, where the maximum SNR in asymmetry can exceed the symmetric one. In addition, the SR effect expands with the increase of noise non-Gaussianity and noise color. More interestingly, SR behavior with the synchronous action of well-depth and well-width asymmetry is similar to the well-width asymmetry one, which is dominant within the three asymmetries case. Finally, some further studies are discussed, which may extend our results of weak signal detection in the context of SR.
