Abstract

Value co-creation is an important aspect of innovation in organizations, especially in the healthcare industry. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of key value co-creation elements and intention to participate in the process on realization of value creation in the healthcare industry. A set of hypotheses was developed and tested based on data collected from 260 inpatients at hospitals with more than 500 beds in South Korea. The findings of the study revealed that key elements of the value co-creation motivate inpatients to participate in the co-creation process through care service. The study contributes to the existing knowledge of value co-creation in healthcare for effective strategies for providing quality care. The results of this study also offer practical insights about how healthcare providers can motivate—inpatients to participate in value co-creation for improved quality care.
