Abstract

[eng] The Specific Features and Determining Factors of Employment among 18 to 25 Year Olds and 26 to 29 Year Olds: Towards the End of the Professional Transition? . Young people from 18 to 29 years old often undergo periods of unemployment and temporary employment. The older ones and those who already have some seniority on the labour market find it easier to secure a job. Conversely, the youngest amongst them are the most exposed to temporary and unskilled employment and often find these jobs beneath their qualifications. Age and seniority on the labour market therefore appear as decisive to professional integration as qualifications. . Youth employment conditions and the types of jobs offered vary a great deal from one sector to the next. The service sector is more apt than industry to use special forms of employment (temping, short-term contracts, apprenticeships, traineeships, etc.) and part-time work. Lastly, an analysis of individual cases suggests the existence of a cumulative process in career paths: young people have much less of a chance of finding a stable position when they have previously held temporary positions. Job instability therefore plays a role in the labour-market segmentation process. [spa] Especificidades y déterminantes del empleo de los jôvenes de 18 a 25 anos y de 26 a 29 anos :
