Antecedentes familiares y rendimiento académico en los colegios oficiales de Cartagena

Abstract

El presente documento analiza la importancia de los antecedentes familiares sobre el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de los colegios públicos de Cartagena, y compara el efecto relativo de dichas características con lo que se presenta en las ciudades de Barranquilla y Bogotá. Con los resultados en matemáticas y lenguaje de la prueba saber 11 del ano 2010, y empleando la metodología de regresión por cuantiles, se encontró que para el rendimiento académico en Cartagena, la educación del padre y de la madre importan sólo a partir del nivel superior, mientras que en Bogotá son significativas en todos los niveles, y la educación de la madre es más importante que la del padre. Por otro lado, ser pobre, vivir en un hogar de bajos ingresos, con un alto número de integrantes, sin dotaciones o recursos educativos, disminuyen el rendimiento académico esperado de los estudiantes de las instituciones oficiales en las tres ciudades.
