Perfil de los maestros oficiales de Medellín, Colombia

Abstract

A partir de reconocer la importancia del perfil docente en la calidad de la educación básica, el estudio describe y analiza las características de los maestros oficiales de la ciudad de Medellín. Los resultados del análisis sugieren que: 1) la carrera docente es esencialmente femenina y veterana y 2) las maestras presentan un mayor grado de escalafón, experiencia docente y nivel educativo que sus similares hombres, lo que se traduce en mejores salarios. Esto implica que si bien el sector es meritocrático, es necesario generar mejores incentivos para los actuales maestros y para los estudiantes bachilleres (especialmente a los mejores), para así hacer más atractiva (y demandable) la carrera docente, y evitar un posible escenario deficitario de maestros, no solo en la ciudad, sino también en el país.
