Öffentlicher Raum und Verkehr: Eine sozialtheoretische Annäherung

Abstract

Seit einiger Zeit ist in der Stadtsoziologie von einer Fragmentierung oder Verinselung des öffentlichen Raumes die Rede. Zuweilen wird sogar von einer tiefgreifenden Krise gesprochen, die sich auch in der Benutzung des öffentlichen Nahverkehrs niederschlägt. In vorliegendem discussion paper wird der Wandel hin zu einer heterogenen, pluralisti-schen Gesellschaft und seine Folgen für die Mobilität im öffentlichen Raum erörtert. Zum einen werden sozialtheoretische Annahmen zur Öffentlichkeit und ihrem Wandel skizziert, zum anderen wird eine teilnehmende Beobachtung zum Verhalten im öffentlichen Nahverkehr gemacht. Besonders auf der Interaktionsebene lässt sich das Phänomen von Öffentlichkeit anschaulich beschreiben. Im Schlussteil wird der Versuch unternommen, mit den aus der Untersuchung und der Sozialtheorie gewonnenen Erkenntnissen Impulse für eine zeitgenössische Innenraum-gestaltung im öffentlichen Nahverkehr zu geben.
