Insécurité alimentaire en milieu urbain et rural au Sénégal : les mêmes causes créent-elles les mêmes effets ?

Abstract

L’objet de cet article est de vérifier si les facteurs d’insécurité alimentaire qui exercent une influence clé en milieu urbain ont un impact tout aussi significatif en milieu rural au Sénégal. A cette fin, un modèle logit binomial appliqué aux données de l’enquête ménage du Sénégal (Esam I) est utilisé afin d’identifier les déterminants qui influencent le plus la probabilité d’insécurité alimentaire dans ces zones. Les résultats de l’analyse montrent que tous les déterminants clés de l’insécurité alimentaire dans l’une des zones n’ont pas une influence tout aussi significative dans l’autre. L’appartenance au groupe des « cadres supérieurs », de l’accès à des revenus tirés de l’élevage et aux transferts se révèlent être des déterminants spécifiques au milieu rural. L’influence significative de l’âge, de l’expérience, de l’appartenance au groupe des « chômeurs » ou d’un niveau d’instruction du chef de ménage équivalent au secondaire est, quant à elle, circonscrite à la zone urbaine. Seuls la taille, le comportement d’autoconsommation, le statut de non-agriculteur et la zone de résidence du chef de ménage exercent un poids significatif à la fois en milieu rural et urbain.
