Abstract

El argumento central que tratamos de desarrollar en este documento es que tras dos décadas de experiencia, la evidencia disponible no permite sostener la validez universal del mencionado axioma: en América Latina la apertura y la integración no siempre se han traducido en mayores tasas de crecimiento, ni éstas, cuando se produjeron, implicaron necesariamente mayor bienestar en el mundo rural.
