Abstract

The franchise system is based on the assistance from franchisor to the franchisee. Nevether-less, this relationship can be questioned in times of economic crisis. From the theoretical framework of resources and competences and the triple role of the franchisor (network architect, operations coordinator and facilitator of the franchisor) as the network's broker, this research seeks to explain the determinants of the franchisor reactivity in times of crisis, from the point of view of its franchisees. Results show that the strategic and relationship skills are the most important factors explaining franchisor reactivity. However, confidence in the loyalty of the franchisor is negatively correlated with perceived franchisor reactivity.
