Abstract

[eng] Difficult Beginnings for Young People: The Influence of the Family's History . From 1987 to 1994, the relative situation of the under-30s deteriorated. For young people in higher education, living with their parents or in independent housing, the risk of joining the households with the lowest standard of living rose. Poverty among students is the result of the sharp rise in the number of students, including those from the most modest backgrounds where family assistance is at its lowest. . In addition to this temporary poverty, young people are still not free from inherited poverty. Some of the family of origin's characteristics, often those to do with poverty, are handed down from one generation to the next: unemployment, material difficulties, etc. When these characteristics accumulate early on, they only concern a minority (2%) of young people. However, these young people form the "core" of this inherited poverty.
