[Education reforms as instrumental variables for education using survey data: effects on survey participation, attrition and non-response]

Abstract

Az iskolázottság hatásait oktatási reformok segítségével mérő irodalom nagy része kérdőíves felmérésekből származó adatokkal dolgozik. A tanulmány azt vizsgálja, okoz-e problémát ezekben a mérésekben, hogy az adatfelvételek mintáit nem azzal a céllal hozták létre, hogy az egyes reformok kohorszaira reprezentatívak legyenek. A tanulmány az ELSA-adatfelvétel és egy sokszor vizsgált oktatási reform segítségével vizsgálja, hogy a kötelező iskolalátogatási korhatár felemelése befolyásolja-e a felmérésben való részvételt, a lemorzsolódást és a válaszadást. Az eredmények azt mutatják, hogy bár a reform valóban befolyásolta a lemorzsolódást, és a mintát is pontosan úgy bővítették, hogy a reformnak kitett emberek száma mechanikusan megnőtt, a szokásos eljárással végzett becslési eredmények mindezek ellenére stabilak maradnak az egyes hullámok között. Az első hullámban azonban olyan változókban is van különbség a szakadási pont két oldalán, amelyeket nem okozhatott a reform, és ezek valószínűleg torzítják a becsült hatás mértékét.* Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) kód: I2, C21, J13
