Analysis of the evolution of pedestrian crossing based on dynamic penalty mechanism

Abstract

Pedestrian traffic violation at intersections is the main cause of pedestrian traffic accidents, especially red-light crossing, which is common in China. This study uses evolutionary game theory to analyze the interaction mechanism of complex behavior between pedestrians and traffic enforcers when pedestrians face red traffic lights at intersections. This paper constructs the game matrix of pedestrian and traffic police under static and dynamic punishment mechanisms and analyzes the influence of key factors on the dynamic evolution process. It is found that there is no evolutionarily stable strategy for traffic police behavior and mechanism under static punishment mechanism. The dynamic punishment mechanism can effectively make up for the shortcomings of the static reward and punishment mechanism, so as to achieve an evolutionarily stable state. The impact of the probability of pedestrian traffic accidents in violation of traffic rules, the cost of strict management of traffic police, the probability of punishment for pedestrians under the loose management of traffic police, and the delay cost of pedestrians not violating traffic rules on ESS are analyzed. The research results have a guiding role for local traffic management departments to formulate traffic policies.
