The effects of economic factors on the out-of-home placement for maltreated children

Abstract

•Poor housing conditions highly affected OOH placement than other economic factors.•Neglect highly affected OOH placement compared to other types of maltreatment.•The coexistence of any economic hardship and maltreatment increased the odds of OOH.•Providing affordable housing is a priority to prevent unnecessary child removal.
