Quantifier la qualité des soins. Une critique de la rationalisation de la médecine libérale française

Abstract

The logic of quantifying the quality of medical work requires patients to trust the numerical standards determined by independent health agencies?rather than relying on the personal relationship they have with their doctor. Since this new regulation seems to be a rationalization of practices, we propose to show how it is useful to review the method of production of these standards?how can we use evidence-based medicine and randomized clinical trials for health policy? After recalling the theoretical and empirical justifications of ?rationalization,? we argue that the policy of quantification is based on an arbitrary epistemology of disease and a reductive epistemology of statistics. This is not without negative consequences for both professionals and patients.
