Abstract

In this paper we aim at studying to what extent reorganizations of the work before implementing the 35-hours work week has influenced firms when choosing their date of implementation of working time reduction through Robien, Aubry I or Aubry II laws. To proceed, we match the business section of the French survey on organizational changes and computerization (c.o.i. [1997]) and administrative data files on working time reduction agreements (r.t.t. [2003]). We consider a firm as reorganized when it uses a greater number of new organizational devices in 1997. Thanks to matching estimators, we show that controlling for organizational constraints helps in explaining a large part of initial differences between reorganized firms and non reorganized firms as to their working time reduction date of implementation, as well as to benefiting from financial incentives. Classification JEL : C14, D23, J38.
