Constructing a Scale of Students’ Attitudes Towards Distance Learning at Jordanian Private Universities

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop and apply a measuring scale to assess the students’ attitudes toward distance learning courses offered at Amman Arab University, a private university in Jordan, through the evaluation of students’ attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of distance learning. The study sample consisted of seven hundred and thirty one (731) students who answered the questionnaire. To achieve the study objective a scale for measurement was developed, consisting of forty five (45) items. The validity and reliability of the scale were assured. The study results revealed a moderately positive attitude toward distance learning, teacher and student interaction was encouraging; also the results showed no statistically significant difference between the arithmetic means attributed to student gender. Thus, students’ attitudes and opinions favored distant learning.
