Abstract

Dieser Beitrag bestimmt den systematischen Ort der Zivilgesellschaft aus der Perspektive einer ökonomischen Theorie der Moral: Zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen können als „Corporate Citizens“ durch genuine Eigenbeiträge an einer gesellschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit zum wechselseitigen Vorteil partizipieren, indem sie (a) die Bevölkerung bestmöglich mit (öffentlichen) Gütern versorgen und (b) die institutionellen Bedingungen hierfür kontinuierlich verbessern und (c) das für eine nötige (Re- )Formierung institutioneller Anreize erforderliche Problembewusstsein schärfen. Auf diese Weise können sie sehr konstruktive Beiträge zur (Selbst-)Steuerung und (Selbst- )Aufklärung der modernen Gesellschaft leisten.
