Abstract

Serbian. English. The modern mainstream of economic science is based on methodological individualism and Smith's theorem on the invisible hand, which supposedly lead to social well-being, that is, to optimal economic results (in the sense of Pareto). Ignoring the questionability and applicability of methodological individualism in other social sciences, even in economics itself, as well as the numerous limitations that Smith himself pointed out regarding the effects and effects of the invisible hand in The Wealth of Nations, mainstream economists have turned methodological individualism and Smith's theorem into a myth of a free, unrestricted market, which imposes itself not only as a theoretical model, but also as a model of economic policy, today practically in all countries. They are given enormous support by international financial organizations, led by the IMF, which practically create the economic policies of a large number of countries. In such conditions, as the first step in the return of economic sovereignty, the problems of understanding the limitations of methodological individualism and the theorem (myth) about the invisible hand are raised, which should serve as a basis for re-examining current economic science and formulating a new economic policy based on a broader understanding of economic phenomena within the framework of all social movements. The work is dedicated to the analysis of the mentioned problems and their criticism, which is still not sufficiently loud and accepted, despite the significant names that made a certain, not small, contribution to it. At the end, a proposal for a new approach to the formulation of economic policy is given, which is based on experiences known from the economic history of various epochs, which respected not only market criteria, but had a broader insight into economic and social flows and the needs of not only individuals but also entire communities.
