L'effet du travail hors-ferme sur l'efficacité technique des fermes laitières québécoises: un modèle intégrant les biais de sélection sur les observables et inobservables

Abstract

Cet article s’intéresse à l’effet du travail hors ferme sur l’efficacité technique d’un échantillon de fermes laitières québécoises. Les analyses sont basées sur l’estimation d’un modèle stochastique de fonction de coûts. Nous formulons l’hypothèse selon laquelle les producteurs travaillant à l’extérieur et ceux travaillant uniquement à la ferme ont des caractéristiques observables et inobservables différentes entraînant un biais de sélection dont il faut tenir compte. La présence de biais de sélection a été confirmée. Et, les résultats empiriques démontrent, après correction pour les biais observables et non observables, l’hypothèse de base selon laquelle le fait d’adopter le travail hors ferme nuit au niveau d’efficacité technique des fermes laitières. Lorsque la correction n’est pas effectuée, les scores d’efficience entre les 2 groupes ne sont pas statistiquement différents.
