Abstract

Les économies française et italienne ont traversé, au cours des dernières décennies, des turbulences à bien des égards comparables. Les politiques économiques menées de part et d'autre des Alpes ont cependant résulté de choix parfois divergents, aboutissant, dans les années 1980-1990 à des évolutions macroéconomiques très contrastées. Pour faire partie du premier cercle de la monnaie unique européenne, les deux pays ont dû opérer des ajustements macroéconomiques de grande ampleur, qui ont eu d'importantes conséquences sur l'augmentation du chômage et sur les facteurs de la compétitivité des producteurs français et italiens. Cet article propose un bilan parallèle des évolutions économiques et des grandes orientations de politique économique de deux des membres fondateurs du Marché commun et des itinéraires qui les ont conduits jusqu'à l'Union monétaire (...).
