Abstract

Lorsque les onze pays européens qui en ont décidé entreront en union monétaire le 1er janvier 1999, les parités nominales entre leurs monnaies seront irrévocablement gelées, aux taux de conversion annoncés début mai. Mais cette décision ne signifie pas que les parités réelles entre les membres de l'Union monétaire ne varieront plus. La parité réelle entre deux pays membres désigne les niveaux comparés de leurs prix, exprimés en une unité commune : hier, ce pouvait être l'une des monnaies nationales, l'ECU ou le dollar, demain ce sera tout naturellement l'euro (...).
