Abstract

This text intends to show how community and complementary currencies, which are emerging local currency schemes, constitute social innovation. It shows first how their spreading modes include the possibility of innovation. It then focusses on four transversal dimensions that are part of social innovation: the accent on purposes and local anchorage, partnership for a unifying project, a critique of the mainstream model and the emergence of innovative forms and rules.
