Abstract

In addition to official currencies, a large number of local alternative currencies have been developed to address not only economic but also social and environmental issues and, more generally, to rethink our relationship with trade. This article aims to analyze the interest and limitations of alternative local monetary systems in all their diversity, and to help identify the conditions that could allow these systems, which remain for the most part confined to confidentiality, to weigh more significantly.
