Abstract

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the American empire settled in the world of the beginning of the 21st century. Since Montesquieu, the decline of empires has been a recurring theme. After debates on the transition from the British hegemony of the early 20th century to the American power that followed it, the theme reappeared in the early 1980s, this time to mark the emergence of new political forces (Europe, Japan, China). However, the recovery of the United States and the renewed desire for American hegemony, at a time when the capitalist economy dominates almost the entire globe, has not yet been questioned in practice. However, there seems to be a strong likelihood of erosion ceteris paribus. However, the history of mankind depends on so many random factors, that it is difficult today to assert an inexorable course.
