Abstract

On the basis of basic information provided by states to the UN, the military expenditures of the major Western military powers are compared, replacing the use of exchange rates with purchasing power parity estimates provided by the European Economic Community. The results obtained modify the content of the comparisons. A study of all the information received by the UN is then presented on the same sample.
