Abstract

The disarmament for development agenda is often well supported by citizens, but much less so by states. Three fundamental questions challenge the economist regarding the militarisation of the world. Are all global military expenditures necessary for world peace, through the deterrence of its respective forces? Does reducing military spending promote global economic development, especially in favour of the poorest countries? Is international aid from the programme selfless and does it not lead to new dependencies?`
