Abstract

This research is looking for managers practicing sensemaking in order to manage people, the tools they used, their objectives and their skills. An investigation in the local public sector consisted in 10 observations and 58 interviews. Results detect modus operandi that implement sensemaking as a management practice. Among them, objectives defining, reinforced by an appropriate recognition of the work done can be stressed, as well as the use of appropriate methods of communication. It is then possible to draw the portrait of a manager using sensemaking, serving organizational performance. This manager is, potentially, a reflexive manager. Manager using sensemaking, reflexive manager, local public sector.
