Los efectos del salario mínimo : Evidencia empírica el caso español

Abstract

En este trabajo se presenta evidencia respecto a los efectos del salario mínimo (SMI) sobre el empleo y la distribución salarial en España. La escasez de estudios sobre un tema controvertido en la actualidad parece paradójico en un pais que ostenta el dudoso honor de tener la mayor tasa deı paro en la OCDE. La ausencia de estudios previos sobre el tema pude deberse a: i) la falta de información estadistica adecuada, ii) la presunción de que el salario minima es tan bajo que no tiene ningún efecto sobre las variables señaladas, y iii) la presunción, altemativamente, que es tan alto queı sus efectos sólo pueden ser negativos. Cualquiera que sea el caso, resulta necesario apoyar las opiniones mediante evidencia adecuada.
