Desigualdad en la distribución del ingreso urbano en Colombia: un análisis de descomposición del coeficiente Gini

Abstract

“La medición de la desigualdad en la distribución del ingreso en Colombia, ha sido un tema seguido de cerca por varios investigadores a pesar de la escasa información existente para establecer las tendencias de la misma y determinar las principales variables que la han influido. En este artículo, se analiza el grado en el cual algunas de las variables asociadas con la distribución del ingreso entre los hogares están determinando la misma, y se comparan los resultados en las cuatro grandes ciudades con los obtenidos por Musgrove (1986) empleando la misma metodología. La metodología utilizada se basa en un análisis de descomposición del coeficiente Gini propuesto por Pyatt (1976), mediante el cual, al dividir la población en clases mutuamente excluyentes, se pueden obtener tres términos que determinan la desigualdad total en la distribución del ingreso medida por el coeficiente Gini: el primero que mide la desigualdad en la distribución del ingreso entre los hogares que componen cada grupo, el segundo es el reflejo de las diferencias en el ingreso promedio de los diferentes grupos y; el tercero muestra el efecto de la superposición de los rangos de ingresos entre los grupos.”
