Abstract

Modern, multidisciplinary models of strategic management are presented. Model types and the planning process used at the functional, strategic business unit, and corporate portfolio levels are contrasted. Applicability of traditional research areas in agricultural economics to strategic management and planning is high and should be exploited. A research agenda is outlined and consideration given to issues of research funding, clientele, and organization.
