Strukturanpassung im österreichischen Lebensmittelhandel. Auswirkung auf die Versorgung und wettbewerbsökonomische Implikationen

Abstract

Der österreichische Lebensmitteleinzelhandel ist durch eine hohe und steigende Marktkonzentration gekennzeichnet. Neben Verfahren wegen verbotener Preisabsprachen in den letzten Jahren geriet dieser Sektor zuletzt durch die Insolvenz der Zielpunkt GmbH Ende 2015 erneut in den wirtschaftspolitischen Fokus. Die Insolvenz dieser Handelskette hat, wie die vorliegende Untersuchung zeigt, nur geringe Auswirkungen auf die Versorgungsqualität und die Angebotsvielfalt. Da ein Wettbewerber aus dem Markt ausgeschieden ist, ist der Zuwachs der Marktkonzentration aber beträchtlich. Die geplante Übernahme einiger Zielpunkt-Filialen durch Unternehmen mit geringem Marktanteil kann die Zunahme der Marktkonzentration nicht abfedern, da die meisten Filialen durch die Marktführer übernommen werden.
