Dysfunktionen in F&E-Koopetitionen: Präventivmaßnahmen und Kooperationserfolg

Abstract

Collaborating with competitors (coopetitions) in the field of R&D is highly advantageous and risky at the same time. This study examines (1) how firms can protect themselves against the negative consequences (dysfunctions) of coopetitions and (2) how dysfunctions affect coopetition success, defined as relationship value and satisfaction with the partner performance. Results show that goal alignment and contractual safeguards decrease unintended knowledge leakages, which are positively related to the degree of formalization. Only goal alignment discourages strategic manipulation. Strategic manipulation rather than unintended knowledge leakages diminishes the success of a coopetition. Our findings have important implications for future research on and the practical management of R&D coopetitions.
