Abstract

[eng] Productivite and growth what is the long run relation-ship? Bringing together brechling's And Kaldor-Verdoorn's models. brigitte Dormont. The present sttidy deals with the estimation of the two well-known models of the productivity — growth relationship : Brechling s labor demand equation and the Kaldor-Verdoorn equation. Those two modela are in principle different, concerning respectively short-run and long-run phenomenon. Using panel data of firms, we show that both specifications do not effectively differ, and that the Kaldor-Verdoorn equation can be reinterpreted as a Brechling's labor demand function. Furthermore it is shown that the estimates of productivity-growth elaticity are rather instable and dépendant on the exact formulation of the model adopted. One should be very careful in using them for long-run analysis.
