Abstract

[eng] Welfare aspects of agricultural cycles. Economic surplus is used to evaluate the welfare loss and distribution effects in the context of cobweb cycles. Aggregate loss and transfers take a simple formulation in terms of price and quantity deviations when the cycle is regular. The distributive role of the marketing sector is discussed according to margin behavior. Three stabilizing policies (destruction of excess supply, deficiency payments and storagé) are evaluated in terms of their welfare gains and distributive impacts including the budget cost.
