¿Importa la calidad de las Universidades en la elección de los estudiantes?

Abstract

la literatura empírica que analiza la elección de universidad por parte de los estudiantes muestra cómo precio y distancia son los principales factores que explican esta decisión. Sin embargo, estos estudios no incorporan prácticamente indicadores de calidad de las universidades a la hora de escoger universi¬dad. En este artículo estimamos un modelo de elección de universidad que incorpora indicadores sobre la calidad del profesorado, así como indicadores sobre la calidad académica de los estudiantes. Los re¬sultados, basados en datos sobre universidades públicas situadas en Barcelona para los estudios de Eco¬nomía, ADE y Empresariales, indican el efecto positivo de estos indicadores en las decisiones de los estudiantes. Adicionalmente, los resultados sugieren una posible estratificación de universidades y se¬gregación de los estudiantes por niveles de calidad académica.
