Abstract

Ludger Wößmann legt in seinem auf die Bildung fokussierten Beitrag dar, dass gerade die Basiskompetenzen der Bildung, wie sie von internationalen Schülervergleichstests in Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften erhoben werden, als entscheidender Einflussfaktor auf das langfristige Wachstum von Volkswirtschaften sind. Diese Bildungsleistungen ließen sich aber nicht einfach durch zusätzliche Bildungsausgaben verbessern, sondern würden insbesondere von institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen des Bildungssystems wie externen Prüfungen, Schulautonomie und Wettbewerb beeinflusst, die Anreize für Wissensvermittlung schaffen.
