Does religious affiliation affect migration?

Abstract

type="main" xml:lang="es"> Se puso a prueba si las redes sociales en el punto de origen, medidas por su afiliación religiosa, afectan a la emigración. La premisa básica es que una pérdida de capital social está ligada a la decisión de emigrar, y que dicha pérdida aumenta los costos de migración debido a la desaparición de los beneficios recibidos de la red local en el punto de origen. Para probar esta hipótesis se estimaron modelos logit condicionales y mixtos respecto a la decisión de emigrar. Los resultados apoyan la hipótesis de que los miembros de organizaciones religiosas con fuertes lazos intracomunitarios y débiles intercomunitarios tienden a emigrar menos que otros. Este resultado fue altamente significativo y robusto, dada la especificación del modelo y los métodos de estimación.
