Methodologischer Hobbesianismus und das Theorieprogramm einer interessenbasierten Moralbegründung

Abstract

Norbert Hoerster vertritt das Theorieprogramm einer interessenbasierten Moralbegründung. Dabei setzt er auf eine enge Verknüpfung von Normakzeptanz und Normbefolgung. Er hielte das Theorieprogramm sogar für gescheitert, wenn eine Normakzeptanz nicht auch eine Normbefolgung nach sich ziehen würde. Der vorliegende Beitrag formuliert eine konstruktive Kritik dieses Arguments: Erstens wird gezeigt, dass bereits Thomas Hobbes im 15. Kapitel seines Leviathan ähnlich argumentiert hatte. Zweitens wird mit Hobbes gegen Hobbes geltend gemacht, dass eine interessenbasierte Moralbegründung nicht opferethisch fordern kann, auf die Verfolgung des eigenen Interesses zu verzichten. Hieraus folgt, drittens, ein systematischer Hiatus zwischen Normakzeptanz und Normbefolgung. Darin liegt aber nicht – wie Hoerster befürchtet – eine Schwäche, sondern vielmehr eine Stärke des Theorieprogramms, denn aus diesem Hiatus folgt als Einsicht: Normbefolgung ist nur dann zu erwarten, wenn sie aufgrund von (formalen und informalen) Anreizen mit dem eigenen (subjektiven) Interesse als kompatibel wahrgenommen werden kann. Der Beitrag schließt mit theoriestrategischen Überlegungen zum heuristischen Potential einer interessenbasierten Moralbegründung.
