Abstract

Negli ultimi decenni Roma, come molte altre città nel panorama internazionale, ha affrontato i problemi della riconversione economica e della riarticolazione istituzionale allo scopo di trovare un posizionamento di rilievo nella gerarchia urbana globale. Il modello di sviluppo perseguito ha puntato al rinnovo dell’immagine della città e alla clusterizzazione spaziale di alcune funzioni particolarmente rilevanti nella nuova economia urbana: il turismo e la cultura. Una risposta, tuttavia, non originale, non endogena, ma allineata a note esperienze internazionali di rigenerazione degli spazi e riqualificazione delle funzioni. Il contributo offre una rilettura dell’evoluzione recente di Roma, ricostruendone le mutazioni economico-territoriali e mettendo a fuoco criticità e debolezze del modello assunto per formulare, in conclusione, alcune ipotesi sulle ricadute territoriali che ne condizioneranno i percorsi di sviluppo.
