Performance de l'activité Internet et développement de compétences : quel lien existe-t-il ?

Abstract

L'Internet s'est installé comme une réalité quotidienne, parfois même au coeur de l'activitédes entreprises. Cette recherche se propose d'étudier la relation existant entre ledéveloppement de compétences et la performance de l'entreprise liée à l'Internet.Après avoir tout d'abord défini la notion « d'activité Internet », nous justifions le choix de lathéorie des ressources et compétences qui apparaît comme un cadre théorique prometteur pourl'étude de la performance des organisations. De manière plus précise, nous nous intéressonsaux capacités dynamiques, particulièrement bien adaptées à l'environnement Internet.Il s'agit alors de pouvoir mesurer la dynamique de renouvellement des compétences. Pour cefaire, une approche originale est mise en oeuvre en se focalisant sur les modes et le niveau dedéveloppement de compétences. Les échelles de mesure correspondantes sont alorssoigneusement développées. Il en va de même concernant la mesure de la performance del'activité Internet. Le modèle ainsi obtenu s'articule autour de sept variables latentes et deuxvariables modératrices.La recherche est ensuite appliquée à un secteur dans lequel l'Internet est particulièrementdéveloppé: le tourisme. A la fin 2004, 610 questionnaires sont envoyés aux dirigeants etresponsables e-business des entreprises du secteur du tourisme français comportant aux moinsdix salariés et ayant développé en plus de leur activité traditionnelle, une activité en ligne.Les résultats issus de 123 observations permettent de tester au préalable la validité et fiabilitédes échelles de mesure. Ils attestent ensuite du lien existant entre le développement decompétences et la performance de l'activité Internet. La relation est notamment significativeen ce qui concerne le développement en interne de compétences. Enfin, l'effet modérateur dela taille de l'entreprise est vérifié. Plus la taille de l'entreprise est grande et plus l'incidence dudéveloppement de compétences sur la performance de l'activité Internet est conséquente.
