Vers une approche dynamique de la théorie des ressources. Le cas de l'internationalisation des ressources d'ingénierie chez un constructeur automobile

Abstract

Si la littérature sur les ressources appelle à étudier les déterminants internes de la performance des firmes, ce courant est confronté à de vives critiques concernant la difficulté à en extraire des recommandations managériales précises, ses catégories d'analyses trop larges et globalisantes, le caractère tautologique du lien entre ressources et performance, ou l'incapacité à nommer et à comprendre les ressources stratégiques de manière suffisamment fine. Dans cette communication, nous expliquons l'essentiel de ces critiques par une perspective statique, et une vision essentialiste et naturalisante des ressources stratégiques de l'entreprise. Nous proposons donc les bases d'une approche plus dynamique et processuelle, distincte de la littérature sur les capacités dynamiques. Il s'agit de comprendre comment des ressources stratégiques qui apparaissent initialement mal appréhendées et maîtrisées par l'entreprise sont progressivement domestiquées par des processus d'apprentissages collectifs. Notre approche suggère ainsi d'étudier les processus d'apprentissage par lesquels les déterminants de l'avantage stratégique sont progressivement identifiés, explorés, gérés et éventuellement diffusés dans un champ concurrentiel. Dans cette perspective, l'incomplétude des approches par les ressources reflète la méconnaissance collective des déterminants de l'avantage concurrentiel. Les « ressources stratégiques » sont alors à considérer comme des projets de connaissance stratégique. D'un point de vue empirique, nous développons le cas d'une décision stratégique d'internationalisation des activités d'ingénierie chez un constructeur automobile. Nous soulignons l'enjeu, pour le corps stratégique, de conduire des processus d'apprentissage rapides sur la dynamique de ses ressources internes et interrogeons les modalités de tels apprentissages.
