Abstract

For the economic analysis, the state is seen as a body that brings together all public actions, whether they are regalian or not. The role of the state concerns public goods, externalities, control of the abuse of private property, support for innovation, externalities, compulsory levies (and their possible progressivity), participation in international organizations, support for other economic agents in crisis situations, and the expression of regalian rights. There are several structures of national market economy that depend very much on the organization of countries, with Anglo-Saxon, Rhenish, Chinese or Soviet capitalism. The market economy invites itself not only in democracies, but also in de facto oligarchies or dictatorships, with a different weight given to the role of the State compared to the market. The state is also called upon to defend the national community and to organize the strategies necessary for national security.
