Abstract

Globalization, which has been underway since the end of the 20th century, is today leading to growing insecurity, a degraded environment and growing economic and social inequalities. Selfishness as a normal behaviour demanded by the market economy and capitalism is gradually transforming a de jure democracy into a de facto plutocracy.
