La 'contre-performance' de l'Europe continentale. Le lien entre institutions , dynamisme et prospérité économique

Abstract

Alors que les économies de l'Europe continentale ne laissent pas de décevoir depuis deux décennies, il paraît nécessaire -- et il s'avère fécond -- de convoquer une " hypothèse institutionnelle " pour éclairer cet échec. Celle-ci s'articule autour de l'idée que c'est dans le défaut ou l'empêchement d'institutions économiques susceptibles d'engendrer un véritable " dynamisme " qu'il convient de rechercher la cause de la contre-performance du continent ouest-européen. Après s'être attaché à définir précisément l'idée de " performance économique " et le concept de " dynamisme ", cet article détaille, dans cette perspective analytique, les spécificités institutionnelles respectives des systèmes corporatiste et capitaliste, en s'appuyant sur les apports successifs des différents courants théoriques qui se sont attachés à leur caractérisation et en insistant sur l'enjeu capital de l'accueil qu'ils font respectivement aux processus d'innovation. Il propose enfin une première série d'évaluations empiriques de la thèse qu'il avance, qui, bien qu'encore embryonnaires, se révèlent concluantes.
