Institutionelle Determinanten der Erwerbsarbeit: Zur Notwendigkeit einer Gender-Perspektive in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften

Abstract

In this paper institutions are understood as rules of individual behavior. The focus is on the impacts of institutions on labor market decisions. Particular points are (1) the methods (or rules) that model individual decisions in neoclassical economics (rational choice approach), (2) implicit rules of behavior generated by gender roles and gender stereo-types and (3) explicit rules of behavior manifested in the legislation of a state. The last point is exemplified by the case of West Germany. In the background of this analysis, the influence of institutions on the allocation of resources is examined. The necessity of a gender view in economics when analyzing the labor supply - especially of women - is discussed on the basis of three theses. Institutionen werden in diesem Beitrag als Regeln menschlichen Handelns begriffen. Im einzelnen geht es um eine Analyse der in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften angewandten Regeln zur Untersuchung individueller Erwerbsentscheidungen (rational choice Ansatz), um Regeln, die in Form von Geschlechterrollen- Stereotypen im Alltagswissen der Gesellschaft bewusst oder unbewusst verankert sind sowie um Verhaltensregeln, die in gesetzliche Form gegossen wurden und das Erwerbsverhalten der Geschlechter beeinflussen (Beispiel Westdeutschland). Im Hintergrund steht dabei die Frage des Einflusses der Regelmechanismen auf die Allokation von Ressourcen. Anhand dreier Thesen wird die Notwendigkeit einer Gender-Perspektive (soziale Konstruktion von Geschlecht) in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften bei Analysen zum Erwerbsangebot - insbesondere dem der Frauen - diskutiert.
