Abstract

El modelo Centro-Periferia tiene como fundamento teórico la asimetría de las relaciones comerciales con términos de intercambio desfavorables a la periferia y una distribución inequitativa del progreso técnico. Este artículo tiene por objeto, en lo general, analizar la pertinencia de una conceptualización no lineal de periferia dada la evolución de los términos de intercambio y la composición de las exportaciones de Argentina, Brasil y México, economías representativas de la inserción y funcionalidad de la periferia en la globalidad de la acumulación. En lo particular, analizar si la economía mexicana fuese menos vulnerable a choques externos dada una relación comercial con el centro sustentada en manufacturas y no en recursos, situación no prevista en el modelo clásico centro-periferia. Para tal efecto, se realiza un ejercicio empírico con base en un modelo VAR a fin de examinar la interrelación de los Términos de intercambio y Crecimiento (PIB) de México.
